Kyle Nelson, Director of Sponsored Research

Kyle NelsonMr. Nelson plays a key role in determining Adventium's strategic direction and realizing it by developing the technology portfolio, leading teams, and securing necessary resources. Since Adventium's founding in 2002, Mr. Nelson has led the company in securing research funding from Federal agencies, both as prime contractor and in subcontractor roles, and commercial firms.

Mr. Nelson's technical accomplishments at Adventium include serving on an NIH-funded STTR (phase I and II) effort for non-intrusive home monitoring of the health and well-being of the housebound elderly or infirm. This work led to a patent application and a commercialized product, called e-Neighbor, available from Health Sense. For NASA, he analyzed past, current, and planned NASA missions to determine when and how a compiled automation approach would be beneficial. Finally, Mr. Nelson is active in cyber security and critical infrastructure protection, having organized the 2003 NSF-sponsored SCADA/IT for Critical Infrastructure Protection Workshop, serving on the Board of Advisors of the Center for Strategic Information Technology and Security, and participating in related research.

Prior to Adventium, Mr. Nelson spent 14 years at Honeywell Laboratories serving in both business and technical roles. He served as Manager of the Honeywell Labs Business Development department in and was awarded the Business Development Top Performer award while assigned to Honeywell's Communications and Systems Architecture Lab. His Honeywell technical roles involved work in multi-agent systems, resource-aware computing, system architecture, maintenance and diagnostics, human centered systems, model-based reasoning, and others. He served as Principal Investigator of the Search and Rescue Assistant (SARA), a DARPA project addressing decision support in combat search and rescue and as Principal Investigator for a NASA project to develop an integrated health monitoring system for future space launch vehicles.
