Martin Michalowski, Techincal Staff

Martin MichalowskyDr. Michalowski specializes in information integration, record linkage, heuristic-based planning, constraint satisfaction problems, and problem modeling. His research work includes building information agents that can link two records from different sources with as little user intervention as possible. The sources are typically web sites that are wrapped and data is subsequently extracted from these pages. This process helped develop wrapper and extraction technologies at the Information Sciences Institute in the University of Southern California and solved the key challenge of developing a system that can generate matches with a high level of accuracy while being highly unsupervised in nature. His research also includes geospatial data integration, specifically using the Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) paradigm to solve the problem of identifying buildings in satellite imagery.

Dr. Michalowski has published over 15 peer-reviewed articles on this range of topics and has also served on the program committees for a wide range of conferences, including AAAI, IJCAI, ACMGIS, ICAPS, and ISWC.  He has served as a journal reviewer for the ACM Journal of Data and Information Quality (JDIQ) and was the Associate Chair for Student Participation at the National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) from 2006-07.  He is also the CTO and co-founder of a successful startup, Campusbooks4less.com, a comparison shopping portal for books and he co-founded a company in the health care domain that strives to bridge the knowledge gap between the general populous and premium health information.
